ALTO Aviation expands its Engineering and R&D team

with the incorporation of Eugenio Penate as Electrical Engineer.

ALTO Aviation is pleased to announce the appointment of Eugenio Penate as Electrical Engineer, joining the ALTO Aviation Engineering and R&D team led by Steve Scarlata, VP of Engineering and R&D. Penate will be located at the ALTO Jupiter facility in Florida.

Penate comes to ALTO Aviation with extensive international experience in embedded systems design and RTOS with ARM processors, Firmware programming, PCB design, manufacture and assembly, Analog, Digital, and Mixed signal PCB layout techniques using Altium Designer, RF and Microwave PCB layout techniques using ADS Momentum, PCBs manufacturing process using chemical and CNC milling line and iOS programming.

ALTO Aviation introduces an innovative Cabin Public Address (PA) and Audio Entertainment Solution for Embraer Phenom 100 and 300 Aircraft.

The Challenge

How can a pilot communicate safety and make personal announcements to the passengers in the cabin, who are not wearing intercom headsets? Currently, there is no provision to do this on the OEM Phenom aircraft.  

Embraer Phenom 100 and 300 operators rely on the factory installed intercom system for the flight crew to communicate with passengers. This communication is based on a request and acknowledgment process between the crew and passengers. The inability to provide cabin briefings to the passengers could prove to be a safety concern not to mention the simple convenience to provide announcements without requiring them to wear headsets. 

The Solution 

ALTO Aviation has developed a system employing 100% fit compatible speakers and a digital amplifier for factory provisioned speaker locations on all Phenom 100 & 300 aircraft. 

If the aircraft is already equipped with speakers as part of the basic or premium IFE package provided by Embraer, the OEM speakers are removed and  the P-12 speaker and associated adapter will be a drop in replacement.

Four (4) speakers will be provided for the Phenom 100 and six (6) for the Phenom 300. The speakers will be wired to an ALTO Aviation DX-130 digital amplifier that interfaces to the aircraft audio panel or audio processor. The flight crew will now be able to make PA announcements from the cockpit by selecting the PA key on the audio panel. When PA is selected from the cockpit a PA chime will activate and the crew will be able to make clear announcements to passengers without requiring them to wear headsets.

    

Want More Than a PA System? Just Add ALTO Subwoofers!

Option 1 – With cabin speakers now installed in the aircraft, a logical option is to add entertainment audio to the system. In addition to the PA input the ALTO DX-130 amplifier also has an input for a single entertainment audio input. To enable this feature all that is required is an aux input panel and two ALTO subwoofers. This will allow passengers to plug in their personal media device and listen to their favorite music through an ALTO Aviation premium digital sound system. Volume settings and music selection will be controlled through the passenger’s personal device. When a PA event occurs the PA event will override any entertainment audio playing.

Option 2 – A second option is available that includes an ALTO DX-135 digital amp with four (4) source inputs. Source inputs typically include XM radio, CD/DVD, Aux input and PA. Source selection and volume control will take place from an ALTO VIP keypad. A secondary aux input is also available at the keypad. The PA chime and PA override feature are also included in the DX-135 amplifier.

The PA system and both entertainment audio options outlined above can be fully integrated with existing Phenom 100 IFE package and basic and premium IFE packages in the Phenom 300.

A cover bezel is available for the DECU replacement. This allows for new plating or accommodating a new flush mounted panel.

 

ALTO Aviation recently expanded its keypad offerings to add video selection to its list of functionality; this allows the passengers to select video to any desired monitor, whether it is a local personal monitor or bulkhead monitor. Two basic keypad styles are available, proud or flush mount. These keypads interface directly with the AVDS node and ALTO amplifiers to provide sequential video and audio control to the cabin audio system and monitors.

 

With the addition of the AVDS node and an onboard wireless Wi‐Fi router, the audio and video system may be controlled by a personal device whether it is Apple or Android based. This flexibility allows passengers to use their personal device for A/V control.
